The Panthers have signed former Redskins WR Devin Thomas. He confirmed the signing on his Twitter feed, tweeting, "It's official I'm a Carolina Panther!"

A sprained ankle has sidelined Steve Smith, depleting the Panthers' receiving corps. In Week Five, the team's top three wide receivers were a pair of rookies (David Gettis and Brandon LaFell) and a veteran signed to the team only days before the game (David Clowney). Another rookie, QB Jimmy Clausen, struggled in the game, completing only 9-of-22 passes, fumbling three times and throwing an interception before being taken out in the fourth quarter.

Thomas never fit into Mike Shanahan's offense in Washington, failing to catch a pass this season after starting 10 games and hauling in 25 receptions a year ago. He was the Redskins' punt returner during the first four weeks.

The way we see it

Expectations are low for Thomas, but almost any contribution he makes to the Carolina offense will be a helpful one. The Panthers rank last in the league in yards and points per game, and Smith's status is unknown following their Week Six bye.

Fantasy Spin

It is unknown what Thomas' role in the Panthers offense will be, and he was very inconsistent during his time in Washington. Like every other Carolina WR besides Smith, it is wise to stay away from Thomas unless desperate.
