It's been a revolving door at the safety position for the Jaguars since last season ended. Free safeties Reggie Nelson and Gerald Alexander were shown the door the first week of September — Nelson was traded to the Bengals for CB David Jones, and Alexander was cut after a poor training camp. But a hamstring injury to starter Sean Considine reopened the door for Alexander, who was re-signed six days before playing a key role in the shocking Week Four win over the Colts. Alexander recovered a fourth-quarter fumble, returning it 43 yards, and jarred loose a would-be Colts touchdown, setting up SS Anthony Smith for an interception that was returned 47 yards. Although the Jaguars surrendered 352 passing yards to Peyton Manning in the win, we hear that starting Alexander over Considine provided a much-needed shot in the arm for a struggling secondary, and the pairing of him and Smith as starters gives the Jaguars the best chance to win now.
