The Packers have signed LB Maurice Simpkins to the active roster from the practice squad, signed LB Johnny Williams to the practice squad and placed SS Morgan Burnett on injured reserve.
Simpkins, a 6-foot, 236-pound first-year player out of Coastal Carolina, has been on Green Bay’s practice squad for the first four games. Signed by the Packers as a free agent in August, Simpkins played for the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League in 2010.
Williams, a 6-2, 244-pound first-year player out of the University of Kentucky, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Jacksonville in May 2009. He spent time on the Steelers' practice squad late in the ’09 season and was with Denver during the preseason this year.
Burnett sustained a serious knee injury in last Sunday’s game vs. Detroit.
The way we see it
With starting ILB Nick Barnett likely out for the season after suffering a wrist injury in Week Four similar to the one that knocked out Bears MLB Brian Urlacher for the season in Week One last year, and LB Brandon Chillar having become a major question mark with a lingering shoulder ailment, Simpkins could make an impact right away.
