The Browns re-signed second-year CB DeAngelo Smith to the practice squad on Thursday, the team announced.
The Browns waived Smith, 24, from the practice squad on Sept. 15. He was on the club's initial practice squad of this season after being waived when Cleveland reduced its roster to 53 players on Sept. 4. The Browns had acquired him off waivers from Detroit on April 28.
This is Smith's third stint with Cleveland. The Browns signed him on Sept. 6, 2009 after he was waived by the Cowboys. The Browns waived him on Sept. 16, 2009, and he signed with Detroit on Nov. 18. He played seven games with the Lions and notched nine tackles on defense. He also made eight special-teams tackles.
In a corresponding practice-squad roster move, the Browns released DL Boo Robinson on Thursday, the team announced.
The way we see it
The Browns had only four cornerbacks on the roster after releasing Derrick Roberson earlier in the week, and they had no corners on the practice squad, so the addition of Smith makes sense. They have seven defensive linemen on the active roster and two on the practice squad after Robinson's release.
