We take a look at the surprising matchup of the day for Monday's Vikings-Jets game:
Vikings WR Randy Moss vs. Jets CB Darrelle Revis
We didn’t think we’d see Moss and Revis lock horns again until Dec. 6, which is when the Patriots and Jets have their rematch game in New England. But Wednesday’s shocking trade of Moss to the Vikings — plus Revis’ expected return from a hamstring injury — make this matchup an early and unexpected treat.
Both men will have hurdles to overcome for Monday night’s game. First, Moss must arrive and be fed a crash course on the Vikings’ offense, trying to build whatever relationship he can with QB Brett Favre in a hurry. But Moss will arrive a motivated man, and the coaches won’t overburden him too much. They’ll script perhaps a few extra plays with Moss’ comfort in mind, and he won’t be expected to carry the load in this game.
Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky and can linger, so Revis could tighten up at anytime. When healthy, he has shown he can contain Moss, especially on his patented deep routes. So the Vikings might look to get the ball into Moss’ hands in other ways than just by sending him deep on fly and post patterns every play.
The advantage goes to Revis — assuming he’s healthy. If that hamstring starts barking during the game, Moss will strike. We saw in Week Two how Moss could fly by a hobbled Revis and make one of his circus-like catches in the back of the endzone.
