The Niners' Mike Singletary is the head coach most likely to be fired before next season, according to a just-concluded poll of ProFootballWeekly.com readers.
Singletary received 1,575 votes out of 7,311 total votes cast (21.5 percent) in the poll, in which we listed 13 head coaches as possible choices to be axed. San Francisco is one of four teams sitting with 0-4 records, but the other three teams — Buffalo, Detroit and Carolina — weren't considered playoff contenders, whereas the 49ers were the preseason favorite in the NFC West.
Singletary easily outdistanced the runner-up in the poll, the 2-2 Jaguars' Jack Del Rio, who received 1,181 votes (16.2 percent).
Behind Singletary and Del Rio in the voting were the Panthers' John Fox (904 votes), whose contract expires at the end of this season; the Browns' Eric Mangini (720 votes); the Cowboys' Wade Phillips (676); the Raiders' Tom Cable (667); the Giants' Tom Coughlin (472); the Vikings' Brad Childress (374); the Bills' Chan Gailey (242); the Bears' Lovie Smith (241); the Chargers' Norv Turner (161); the Buccaneers' Raheem Morris (67); and the Titans' Jeff Fisher (31).
