Unlike teammate Vincent Jackson, sitting out an entire season was never something Marcus McNeill wanted to do. That's why, despite being denied to have the original $3.2 million one-year tender he passed on signing restored, he ultimately decided to rejoin the Chargers for $444,000. Even though McNeill was less than thrilled with the dealings of GM A.J. Smith, we're told the two-time Pro Bowler was tired of sitting out and wanted to play football again. We also hear that before agreeing to play for a reduced tender, McNeill likely received a strong suggestion from Smith that he will be the beneficiary of a long-term contract from San Diego when he becomes a free agent again in 2011. The fact that McNeill was never made available in trades only furthers the likelihood of a deal getting done after the season. Eligible to return from the roster exempt list in Week Six, the 6-7, 336-pound giant is fully expected to resume starting at left tackle, music to the ears of QB Philip Rivers.
