The Browns acquired reserve DE Jayme Mitchell from the Vikings in exchange for an undisclosed 2012 late-round pick, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

The 6-6, 285-pound Mitchell likely projects to end in Cleveland's 3-4 front. He has played in a 4-3 defense throughout his time in Minnesota. Before the trade, the Browns had six defensive linemen on the roster. Starting DLE Robaire Smith (back) and DRE Kenyon Coleman (knee) missed practice time with injuries last week before playing in Week Four against the Bengals. Smith had missed practices Wednesday and Thursday but practiced on a limited basis Friday, while Coleman did not practice all week. Also, NT Shaun Rogers, who could also slide to end if needed, missed time with ankle and hip injuries on Wednesday and Thursday but practiced on a limited basis Friday and played vs. Cincinnati.

Mitchell, who played collegiately at Mississippi, has appeared in 29 career games with no starts. He has appeared in two games this season and notched a sack at New Orleans in the season opener.

The way we see it

Mitchell was one of 10 defensive linemen on the Minnesota roster, and it will be interesting to see how the Vikings fill his roster spot. Adding an offensive lineman could be a possibility, with C John Sullivan fighting a calf injury. Sullivan missed much of the Week Three win vs. Detroit with the injury and missed practice Monday.
