Hours after his DWI arrest, the Panthers have cut Panthers WR Dwayne Jarrett.

The Panthers cut the former second-round draft pick on Tuesday afternoon. Jarrett was arrested early Tuesday morning for driving while impaired. He was pulled over just past 2 a.m. in Charlotte and released on $2,000 bond.

It is the second arrest in three years for Jarrett, who pleaded guilty to DWI in March 2008.

The former USC standout has just two catches for 40 yards this season and has never eclipsed 200 yards receiving in a season during his NFL career.

To take his roster spot, the Panthers claimed WR David Clowney. He has spent the last four seasons with the Jets, catching 16 passes for 239 yards and one TD.

The way we see it

This came as no surprise for a guy who has struggled on the field, as well. The DWI just gave Panthers more reason to cut ties with Jarrett, who had fallen far down the depth chart. Even with top WR Steve Smith likely out for Sunday's game against the Bears, Jarrett would still be behind young receivers on the Panthers' depth chart. It's another sad chapter in Jarrett's career.
