The Jaguars released veteran QB Todd Bouman on Tuesday. They signed DL C.J. Mosley to take his roster spot.

Bouman became the No. 2 QB when Luke McCown was placed on injured reserve. He hasn't played in a game since 2007 and hasn't started since 2005. With former Bills QB Trent Edwards now on the roster, Bouman became expendable.

Mosley has played in 59 games with six starts in his six-year career.

The way we see it

The Jaguars have kept only two QBs the past few seasons, as they would prefer to keep another player on the roster who can contribute on special teams. The club thinks that Edwards, a Stanford grad, has had sufficient time to pick up the playbook, thus making him a better option to back up David Garrard than the 38-year-old Bouman. Garrard is coming off a very strong showing in a win over the Colts and will remain the starter as long as he avoids costly turnovers.
