The Sunday night matchup between the Bears and Giants was not pretty football by any measure, but the game was a beauty for NBC.

The TV network announced on Monday that the Week Four contest recorded the best overnight rating for an NFL primetime game in October in 10 years, with a 14.2 overnight rating and 22 share. Chicago was the highest local market in the country, as the Windy City earned a 39.7 local rating with 54 percent of households tuned in.

Last night's game was the highest rated October primetime contest since Oct. 9, 2000, when a 30-27 Vikings win over the Buccaneers earned a 14.7 overnight and 23 share on ABC's "Monday Night Football."

The way we see it

A matchup of the league's two largest TV markets and two of the most historic franchises is always ratings gold for networks. The 3-0 start by the Bears also likely helped, as fans around the country got a chance to see the NFC's last unbeaten team in a tough road game.
