Panthers top WR Steve Smith's agent Derrick Fox said Monday that Smith will "most likely" sit out Sunday's game against the Bears.
Smith suffered an injury to his left ankle in the third quarter on Sunday against the Saints. X-rays were negative, but reports have surfaced that it is a high ankle sprain.
Panthers head coach John Fox said Smith is "day to day." The Panthers have a bye week after they host the Bears this Sunday.
The way we see it
Smith has 13 catches for 174 yards and two TDs this season and is head and shoulders above all other Panthers receivers. The Panthers rank last in the NFL in scoring and need a healthy Smith to find any success on offense. If Smith cannot play Sunday, Dwayne Jarrett could see the field more. Rookie WR Brandon LaFell and TE Dante Rosario are the top receivers with Smith out.
