Dolphins starting ILB Channing Crowder suffered a setback this week and had to see a specialist as he recovers from a groin injury that has kept him out of the first three games.
Crowder, a six-year veteran, suffered the injury in mid-August but returned to practice on a limited basis last week. This week, he started to see a more expanded role, even lining up with the starters alongside Karlos Dansby.
Head coach Tony Sparano said Crowder missed practice Friday and was sent to a doctor for an evaluation.
Crowder has started 63 games in his career with the Dolphins. ILBs Bobby Carpenter and Tim Dobbins have shared time at ILB in his absence.
The way we see it
The Dolphins were hopeful Crowder could return Monday night to help slow down the Patriots' offense. The 'Fins have struggled in covering tight ends and Crowder could help in that aspect by focusing on the run and allowing Dansby to focus on opposing tight ends. Carpenter, a former first-round pick, has played well, making a couple key stops this season.
