The Patriots signed RB Thomas Clayton to their 53-man roster on Thursday and released OL Quinn Ojinnaka.
Clayton, who was signed off the Browns' practice squad, was a sixth-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2007. He spent 2007 and most of ’08 on the Niners' practice squad and was on injured reserve in ’09.
The Patriots signed Clayton last June, released him on Aug. 6, and re-signed him on Aug. 11.
They acquired Ojinnaka in a trade with the Falcons in August. He was suspended for Week One and was inactive in Weeks Two and Three.
The way we see it
RB Fred Taylor (toe) has been out of practice all week, so he is likely to be inactive for the Monday-nighter against the Dolphins. Head coach Bill Belichick is used to having four active backs on his roster and giving all of them carries, so Clayton could see the field on Monday, especially because he knows the Patriots' system from this summer.
Ojinnaka had not seen the field in a regular-season game since joining the squad and the Pats' O-line, even without Logan Mankins and Nick Kaczur, has played great so far, allowing just two sacks. They also promoted OL Rich Ohrnberger from the practice squad on Wednesday.
