The Browns signed former Eagles RB Martell Mallett to the practice squad on Wednesday, the club said. The Browns also waived DB DeAndre Wright from the practice squad.
Mallett, 24, was waived from the Eagles' practice squad on Sept. 21. The 6-0, 210-pound Mallett rushed for 1,240 yards for the CFL's B.C. Lions in 2009 and was named the league's Most Outstanding Rookie.
Wright, whom the Giants drafted in Round Six of the '09 draft, was signed to the Browns' practice squad on Sept. 15.
The way we see it
The signing of Mallett gives the Browns two running backs on the practice squad. Cleveland signed Thomas Clayton to the practice squad on Sept. 15.
The Browns have three running backs on the active roster: Jerome Harrison, Peyton Hillis and James Davis. Harrison missed the Week Three loss at Baltimore with a thigh injury, and Hillis rushed for 144 yards on 22 carries in his place as Cleveland's starter. Davis, the Browns' third-string back, carried four times for nine yards.
