Sources are told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the Seahawks have signed free agent WR Brandon Stokley and will cut RB Quinton Ganther to make room on the roster. Other media outlets in Seattle have confirmed the move.
Ganther's agency confirmed via Twitter that he has been cut and already contacted by multiple teams.
The Broncos released Stokley on Sept. 14 after reaching an injury settlement with the team. The Broncos placed him on injured reserve with a groin injury on Sept. 4.
In three seasons in Denver, Stokley caught 108 passes for 1,490 yards and 12 TDs. He spent time with current Seahawks offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates in Denver.
The way we see it
This is likely a reaction to No. 1 WR Mike Williams dealing with a shoulder injury. Stokley is a serviceable slot guy and Pete Carroll likes to make moves. Ganther was signed as a FB but Bates rarely uses one in his offense. The signing of RB Michael Robinson and emergence of RB Leon Washington made Ganther expendable.
