The Saints will carry two kickers on their roster after reportedly signing veteran PK John Carney on Tuesday.
Carney, 46, is a two-time Pro Bowler. He was 13-for-17 kicking field goals last season for the Saints before being released from the active roster and becoming a kicking consultant to Garrett Hartley in December.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the signing.
Hartley missed a a 29-yarder in Sunday's overtime loss to the Falcons. The chip shot would have given the Saints the victory. Hartley, who kicked a game-winner against the 49ers in Week Two and in the NFC championship game last season, is just 4-for-7 this season.
The way we see it
This is not a huge surprise, as reports surfaced that head coach Sean Payton would work out Carney just hours after the Saints' loss on Sunday. The Saints know what to expect from Carney, and this could be a wake-up call to Hartley about his job.
