The Rams have signed RB Chauncey Washington off of the Jets' practice squad, giving them depth at the position in case starter Steven Jackson is forced to miss time with a groin injury. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch first reported the news on Tuesday morning.
Washington, a three-year NFL vet who has spent time with the Jaguars and Cowboys, was one of the final cuts in the Jets' training camp this season. He appeared to have outplayed rookie Joe McKnight during the preseason at both running back and on special teams, but the team chose to keep their fourth-round pick, instead placing Washington on its practice squad.
The way we see it
Jackson's injury left the Rams without much of a run game, so Washington will step in and share the load with fellow RBs Kenneth Darby and Keith Toston if needed.
