The Giants have placed S Michael Johnson on injured reserve with a herniated disc in his back. DB Brian Jackson was promoted from the practice squad to take Johnson's place on the roster.
Johnson started 14 games last season and played in the first two games this season before being deactivated for Week Three.
Jackson, an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma, originally signed with the Jets and played in all four preseason games before being waived on Sept. 7.
The way we see it
This is not a big loss for the Giants, even though Johnson is a former starter. Johnson is better at strong safety but does not have a lot of range. However, SS Kenny Phillips has battled injuries in his career, so losing Johnson depletes the team of some nice insurance behind Phillips.
