Chargers OLB Larry English will miss 4-6 weeks as he recovers from a foot injury.

English, a second-year player out of Northern Illinois, played in all 16 games last season with two starts. He recorded 36 tackles and two sacks in 2009.

With Shawne Merriman out for the season opener, English got the start. He did not play in Week Three and had foot surgery on Tuesday.

The way we see it

The Chargers' OLB position opposite Shaun Phillips is extremely thin now, as Merriman still is not at 100 percent and reserve LB James Holt was put on I.R. earlier Tuesday. The Chargers have a fairly easy next three games as their 'backers heal (Arizona, Oakland and St. Louis), but they haven't played well through three weeks.
