The Rams can breathe a huge sigh of relief Monday. RB Steven Jackson had an MRI Monday after leaving Sunday's game in the second quarter with a groin injury. Jackson tweeted after the MRI "It's only a strain..."

Jackson had 58 yards rushing on 10 carries, including a 42-yard touchdown before the injury. The Rams went on to beat the Redskins 30-16. There is little depth behind Jackson, the Rams' clear-cut best player. Kenneth Darby ran for 49 yards on 14 carries and undrafted rookie Keith Toston had 22 yards on 11 carries with Jackson out.

Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo said Jackson is considered day-to-day and the Rams will be cautious with the injury.

The way we see it

While the Rams persevered and won on Sunday without Jackson, they would be hard-pressed to find much success on offense if Jackson were to be out for an extended period of time, so they should consider themselves lucky. Without top WR Donnie Avery, a rookie at QB, Jackson is the focal point of the offense, as he has been since 2005. Rumors circulated that Larry Johnson, who was cut by the Redskins on Sept. 21, may be heading to St. Louis if the Rams were to acquire a RB.
