On Sunday, after the team's third consecutive loss, 49ers head coach Mike Singletary gave offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye a vote of confidence, saying Raye will be in his job for the remainder of the season.

On Monday, Raye was fired by the team. He will be replaced by QB coach Mike Johnson.

The 49ers' offense has struggled all season long, a major reason the team that was projected by many to win the NFC West has started 0-3. Offensive assistant Jason Michael will now take over as quarterbacks coach.

The way we see it

Despite Singletary's comments, this comes as no real surprise. The 49ers scored only 10 points yesterday vs. the Chiefs, with seven of them coming on the last play of the game, long after the result had been decided. Raye's offense had become predictable, as Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reported that several Kansas City defenders began calling out the 49ers play before the ball had been snapped based on the formation the team was lined up in. Singletary has a lot of work in turning this team around, and firing Raye was only the first step.
