Just hours after they lost to the Falcons in overtime, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Saints will work out former kicker John Carney this week. The Saints had a chance to defeat the Falcons in overtime but PK Garrett Hartley missed a 29-yard chip shot.

Hartley, who kicked the game-winning field goal against the 49ers in Week Two and in the NFC Championship game in 2009, is just 4-of-7 this season. Carney, 46, is a two-time Pro Bowler and was 13-of-17 last season in 11 games wiht the Saints before being released from the active roster.

Carney had been a kickin consultant for the Saints since December, mentoring Hartley.

The way we see it

Hartley has not been good, and the Saints know what they can get from Carney, but there are also a lot of other kickers on the market that they could look at. We don't expect Hartley to be cut this week, it could be used to motivate him to get back on track.
