The Jets announced before their Sunday night game against the Dolphins that WR Braylon Edwards will be benched for the first quarter.
Edwards was arrested Tuesday morning in New Jersey for driving under the influence.
"We've made our disappointment clear to Braylon," Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum said in a team-issued statement. "Now he must deal with the consequences of his actions as the legal process runs its course, and the league will determine the appropriate discipline under the guidelines of the Collective Bargaining Agreement."
Edwards' Range Rover was pulled over by police due to overly tinted windows. When asked to take a breathalyzer test, the receiver blew a .16, twice the legal limit.
The way we see it
Missing the first quarter will not play a huge role in the outcome of the big AFC East clash. Edwards will still have 45 minutes to make an impact, and if he duplicates his Week Two performance - where he caught a TD and two-point conversion - all will be forgotten. David Clowney will likely start in Edwards' place, opposite Jericho Cotchery.
