TE Mickey Shuler Jr. has reportedly been claimed off waivers by the Dolphins after his release by the Vikings earlier in the week. Minnesota, after signing WR Hank Baskett, had hoped to put Shuler on their practice squad, but he has found a spot on Miami's 53-man roster.

Shuler Jr. was the Vikings' seventh-round pick in April, coming out of Penn State. His father, Mickey Shuler, was a 14-year NFL tight end with the Jets and Eagles.

In the Pro Football Weekly 2010 NFL Draft Preview, analyst Nolan Nawrocki described Shuler as a, "Tough, try-hard, high-effort overachiever."

The way we see it

We heard earlier this week that if the Dolphins were to make a move, it'd be for a backup TE, and now they've added two. They signed rookie Jeron Mastrud from their practice squad earlier in the week, and added another rookie TE on Thursday in Shuler. Mastrud is known for his blocking while Shuler has good hands to add a receiving threat at the backup TE position.
