Browns starting RB Jerome Harrison (thigh) was among nine Browns who were to sit out practice Thursday, head coach Eric Mangini said, according to the club.

Mangini also indicated QB Jake Delhomme (ankle), ORG Shaun Lauvao (ankle), TE Evan Moore (head), CB Derrick Roberson (hip), NT Shaun Rogers (ankle, hip), WR Brian Robiskie (hamstring) and DE Robaire Smith (ankle) were to sit out Thursday as they did Wednesday.

Another starter, OLB Marcus Benard, who leads the Browns with 2½ sacks, is also out of practice Thursday with an ankle injury, Mangini said. Benard practiced Wednesday.

The way we see it

Mangini reportedly said he hopes most players return to practice Friday. Delhomme, who has a high-ankle sprain, according to The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, could very well miss Week Three.

If Harrison were out, Peyton Hillis would be the Browns' top tailback, and second-year RB James Davis would move up a spot on the RB depth chart in Week Three. Mangini said he thought Harrison would practice Wednesday, but Harrison was unable to because of the injury.

"That sometimes happens, where the plan was for him to go out and have a limited number of reps but as the morning went on it kind of stiffened up," Mangini said.
