Packers RB Ryan Grant said his ankle surgery Thursday morning “went great” in a tweet to the Green Bay Gazette. Grant was injured in the season opener at Philadelphia on Sept. 12. He was expected to have a screw or screws inserted in his right ankle to help heal torn ligaments.

“Feeling good and wanted to truly thank everyone,”Grant said in his tweet. “Everyone’s prayers n support has made this an easy process so far and I’m looking forward to coming back even more of a beast.”

The way we see it

Despite Grant’s encouraging prognosis, it’s not likely the Packers regret putting their normal featured back on injured reserve. There had been some discussion about not putting Grant on I.R. with the hope that he might be able to come back and contribute later this season, the same way former Packers RB Dorsey Levens did from a similar injury in 1998. But the Packers took a more cautious route and appear committed for the time being to a running-back-by-committee featuring Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn.
