McCoy in key position to help Eagles

Lost amid the Michael Vick-Kevin Kolb saga is the team’s RB position. Entering the season, there were questions about how LeSean McCoy might handle being the starter and whether he might have to give way to Mike Bell and perhaps FB Leonard Weaver some before he was stabilized. Those ideas are fading quickly. Weaver is lost for the season, and Bell has been a no-show so far. Although McCoy hasn’t handled the ball a ton — 23 rushes, nine receptions — he has answered a lot of questions about his ability to be the main option. McCoy has four rushing touchdowns and led the team in receptions through two games, and he has shown a terrific burst outside as well as good strength inside. Some observers wonder, too, if the threat of Vick scrambling outside the pocket also hasn’t opened up lanes for McCoy between the tackles, where some of his longest gains have come from. Expect the team to continue leaning on McCoy as long as he keeps his production up.
