The Jets were thin at wide receiver before Braylon Edwards' DUI on Tuesday morning, which has resulted in his benching. On Thursday, the team added depth at the position by promoting Patrick Turner from their practice squad.
Third-string OLT Patrick Brown was waived to create Turner's roster spot.
A 2009 third-round draft choice out of USC by the Dolphins, Turner has had a disappointing pro career thus far. He had no catches during his rookie season and was cut by Miami in training camp this year. The Jets and Dolphins just happen to be playing each other this Sunday.
The way we see it
Turner is big (6-foot-5) but lacks NFL speed to be a legit wideout. He still will get his opportunities in the Jets' offense the next few weeks, thanks to their situation at wide receiver. Santonio Holmes is suspended, Edwards may be in trouble with the league following his arrest, David Clowney is seen as a part-time player and Brad Smith rarely contributes in the passing game. Expect Turner to grab his first NFL catch soon.
