Here is a matchup to keep an eye on when the Patriots take on the Bills this Sunday.
Bills safeties/linebackers vs. Patriots tight ends
The Patriots have made no secret about their desire to utilize their three tight ends frequently and expect them to be significant contributors. The Patriots had at least two tight ends on the field for many of their plays in Week Two. Rookie TE Aaron Hernandez was their leading receiver against the Jets with six catches for 101 yards, and fellow rook Rob Gronkowski had a TD catch in Week One. The two rookies are athletic, and Hernandez especially can create matchup problems with his versatility coming out of the slot.
But the Bills will counter with two solid safeties in Jairus Byrd and Donte Whitner. The secondary is the strength of the Bills' "D," and Byrd and Whitner will make life tough for whomever they cover on Sunday. The Bills' linebackers, who may have to cover the Patriots' tight ends in the flat, are very weak due to injuries, but Andra Davis is reliable in pass coverage.
