Pro Football Talk is reporting that Steelers QB Dennis Dixon has a tear in the lateral meniscus of his left knee. Dixon suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Titans. It's the same knee he tore an ACL in three years ago.
The league source told PFT that Dixon will get a second opinion on Tuesday and determine the next steps on Wednesday.
Veteran QB Charlie Batch came in for Dixon and the Steelers re-signed QB Byron Leftwich on Monday. QB Ben Roethlisberger is set to return from suspension after Week Four and will likely start in Week Six, after the team's Week Five bye.
The way we see it
If Dixon is out for a while, this makes the re-signing of Leftwich all the more important both now and in the long term, after Roethlisberger returns. Leftwich was hurt at the end of the preseason. Batch missed all of '08 and was injured in his only game in '09. Dixon showed promise in the second half of his first start but struggled before his injury Sunday.
