Panthers head coach John Fox said Monday that rookie Jimmy Clausen will be the team's starting QB in Week Three vs. the Bengals.
Clausen replaces Matt Moore in the Carolina lineup. Moore has struggled this season, completing only 40.8 percent of his passes and throwing four interceptions and only two TDs. He also has been sacked eight times and lost two fumbles.
A second-round pick out of Notre Dame, Clausen had been groomed as the team's QB of the future but will take over sooner than expected. In the Pro Football Weekly 2010 NFL Draft Preview, draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki said Clausen, "Has shown a lot of magic on big stages and thrived in high-pressured situations … wants the ball in his hands in the clutch."
The way we see it
Fox had no choice after Moore's struggles at the start of the season. Clausen has played in relief during both games, completing 7-of-15 passes for 59 yards and one interception.
