Head coach Chan Gailey has said on several occasions that the Bills have three No. 1 running backs in C.J. Spiller, Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch. Yet on a team with so many holes, especially at linebacker and tight end, it makes sense to deal a back for a draft choice or player and use a roster spot more wisely. According to a team insider, after selecting Spiller with the No. 9 choice in the draft, the Bills rejected a Draft Day trade that would have netted a third- or fourth-round choice for Lynch, thinking they could receive more later on. Lynch's value is unlikely to improve as long as he's listed third on the depth chart, though teams desperate for depth at the position may be intrigued by his age (24) and consistency (career 4.0 yards per carry). Gailey has stated publicly that the team has no interest in moving a running back, but if the right deal came along, it is believed that the Bills would part with one of their runners to improve another position.
