Eagles head coach Andy Reid has announced that Michael Vick will start at quarterback on Sunday vs. the Lions. Week One starter Kevin Kolb suffered a concussion in the first half of the season opener against the Packers and then failed a concussion a test on Wednesday, ruling him out of practice until Friday.

Vick performed well against Green Bay, throwing for 175 yards and a TD while rushing for a team-high 103 yards, almost leading the Eagles to a comeback win. He faces a Lions squad who will also be without their opening day starter at QB, as Shaun Hill fills in for Matthew Stafford (shoulder).

Sunday will mark Vick's first start in an NFL game since Dec. 31, 2006, when he played for the Atlanta Falcons.

The way we see it

This move was expected after Kolb failed NFL-mandated head exams earlier in the week. Vick is one of the league's top backup QBs and has plenty of starting experience, so his transition to being first-string shouldn't be a major one. He also ran the Eagles' offense much more efficiently than Kolb in Week One.
