The Raiders will add depth to the offensive line Thursday when they re-sign OL Erik Pears. To make room for Pears on the roster, the Raiders will release WR Yamon Figurs. Multiple media outlets are reporting the transactions.
Pears, a five-year veteran out of Colorado State, played in 12 games last season, starting four with the Raiders. In 2007, Pears started all 16 games for the Broncos at right tackle.
Figurs played in six games in 2009 with the Buccaneers and Lions. He had one catch for 10 yards and five kickoff returns for 105 yards in the Raiders' season opener against the Titans.
The way we see it
Reports indicate that head coach Tom Cable will use Johnnie Lee Higgins and rookie Jacoby Ford on returns with Figurs gone. The Raiders needed to bring back Pears with former first-round draft pick OLG Robert Gallery missing practice with a hamstring strain that Cable said could be significant. Pears will bring some experience to an offensive line that gave up four sacks in the season opener.
