The Saints announced Wednesday that the club has re-signed free-agent CB Leigh Torrence and waived LB K.C. Asiodu.
Torrence is a fifth-year veteran player who first joined the Saints when he was claimed off waivers from the Redskins during the 2008 season. In two seasons in New Orleans, the 5-11, 179-pound Torrence has played in 12 games, making 12 tackles with half a sack and two passes defended. He also has added 13 special-teams tackles.
He had been released by the team prior to the season opener.
Asiodu signed with the team late in the preseason and played against Minnesota in Week One, making one tackle on special teams. The 6-2, 242-pound linebacker is a second-year player, having spent the ’09 season with the Rams.
The way we see it
This appears to be a swap of special-teams players, with Torrence offering more experience and being able to add experienced depth in the secondary.
It's also likely that the Saints preferred to sign Torrence after Week One, when they could sign him to an unguaranteed veteran's minimum contract.
