The Panthers brought back kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd after his replacement, Todd Carter, was injured Sunday against the Giants. Carter had just one kickoff in the season opener before leaving the game with back spasms. The Panthers waived Carter after reaching an injury settlement.
Lloyd was not re-signed after by Carolina after the 2009 season and was cut by the Vikings when they trimmed their roster to 53.
The way we see it
Lloyd led the NFL with 30 touchbacks in 2008 and tied for fourth in the league with 21 last season before becoming a free agent. He provides a big leg for the Panthers and was likely signed for cheaper than if they re-signed him in the offseason.
