Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced Monday that starting RB Ryan Grant suffered a significant ankle injury and will not be available for the team's Week Two game against Buffalo.

Grant suffered the injury in the second quarter of the season opener against the Eagles and did not return. He did not miss a start in 2009, rushing for 1,253 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Backup RB Brandon Jackson had 18 carries for 63 yards replacing Grant.

The way we see it

This is a significant thing to keep an eye on, as Grant is the clear primary back for the Packers. While their offensive strengths come in the passing game, Grant is still the main weapon in the backfield. Jackson did have some nice runs after replacing Grant, and FB John Kuhn ran for a touchdown in the season-opening win at Philadelphia.
