Lions QB Matt Stafford is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering an injury to his right shoulder during a Week One loss to the Bears.

NFL Network reporter Jason La Canfora said the Lions are preparing to be without the 2009 No. 1 overall pick for more than a month. Stafford had connected on 11-of-15 passes for 83 yards before he left the game after being sacked by Bears DE Julius Peppers late in the first half.

The Lions could be without their signalcaller for the remainder of their NFC North road games as they travel to Minnesota and Green Bay in Weeks Three and Four, respectively, as well as home contests vs. Philadelphia in Week Two and St. Louis in Week Five. They travel to New York to play the Giants Week Six before having a bye Week Seven.

The way we see it

Backup Shaun Hill is serviceable and almost led the Lions to a last-minute victory vs. the Bears. He has a 10-6 career record as a starting QB and knows the Detroit offense. Hill doesn't have the arm strength that Stafford does, so offensive coordinator Scott Linehan might call fewer deep routes and opt for more safe passes.
