The Jaguars placed WR Jarett Dillard on injured reserve Saturday, ending the season for the second-year player before it even began.

Dillard hurt his foot in training camp, and it was identified as a stress fracture. He was expected to miss only the early part of the regular season, but the injury was slow to heal and the team decided to place him on I.R.

Taken in the fifth round of the 2009 draft, Dillard played in seven games a year ago, catching six passes for 106 yards. As a colligate player at Rice, Dillard was an Associated Press All-American and finalist for the Biletnikoff Award in 2008.

To fill the roster spot, Jacksonville signed WR John Matthews from its practice squad. During the preseason, the undrafted rookie from the University of San Diego had eight receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns.
