QB Pat White, who was cut by the Dolphins last weekend, has signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals. The former second-round NFL draft pick has been drafted in the Major League Baseball amateur draft multiple times, most recently by the Yankees in 2009 in the 48th round.

The Royals will sign White with the understanding that he would return to football if an opportunity arises.

The way we see it

White was the fourth-string QB in Miami behind Chad Henne, Tyler Thigpen and Chad Pennington. Many people thought the Dolphins drafted him in 2009 to enhance their "Wildcat" formation, but head coach Tony Sparano has said that White's skills in the "Wildcat" were just "icing on the cake." He never did show he had the arm to be an NFL QB, but it's possible a team could take a flier on him this season or maybe try him out at wide receiver.
