The termination of C Jake Grove's contract just days before the season began was another example of the Dolphins staying away from players with nagging injuries. The way we hear it, Grove and C Joe Berger were locked in the only genuine competition of camp, but Grove's injuries turned the Dolphins' brass off. Grove and Berger went back and forth in practice and Grove played well against the Jaguars, only to hurt his shoulder against the Falcons in the third preseason game, his third injury since signing with Miami in March 2009. Berger did an admirable job in six starts late in '09 with Grove hobbled by a high ankle sprain, but a daily team observer said a healthy Grove is a better option for the Dolphins' interior. Berger will be the sixth different center to start the season opener for the team in the past eight seasons. Grove walked away with $14.5 million for just one season of service.
