Giants CB Aaron Ross is listed as doubtful for Sunday's season opener against the Panthers but wants to play after practicing this week. Following Friday's practice, head coach Tom Coughlin did not say whether or not Ross will be in the starting lineup.

Ross has plantar fasciitis in his right foot, an injury sustained against the Steelers on Aug. 21. The former first-round pick is approaching 100 percent and said, "I felt really good; it is getting better and better."

When the injury was revealed, Ross' status for Week One was in jeopardy; now it looks like he may be able to play on Sunday. Ross played in only four games with one start in 2009 because of a hamstring injury after starting 15 games in 2008.

"I still have two more days, so don't count me out," said Ross.

The way we see it

Terrell Thomas is expected to start and Ross, if healthy, would play in the nickel, but Ross did outperform Thomas at times in training camp before getting hurt.
