Dolphins ILB Channing Crowder (groin) did not practice Friday and is questionable for the Dolphins' season opener Sunday in Buffalo. Crowder has not practiced since Aug. 17 and likely will not play. Tim Dobbins is expected to start in his place.
The Dolphins acquired Dobbins in a trade with San Diego this offseason. Crowder has started 63 games in five seasons with the Dolphins, including 13 in 2009. Dobbins played in 14 games (starting two) for the Chargers last season.
OLT Jake Long (knee) and WR Brandon Marshall (ankle) are both listed as probable.
The way we see it
The Bills will likely bring a one-dimensional offense of running the ball with rookie RB C.J. Spiller and Marshawn Lynch, and the Dolphins could use Crowder on the inside if those backs get to the second level. Last season, Crowder remained on the field in nickel situations, but the Dolphins aren't confident about Dobbins' pass coverage and will likely go with three safeties in a nickel package until Crowder returns.
