Even though he said on Thursday that his sore right knee is "a lot better," Cardinals RB Beanie Wells is listed as questionable for Sunday's season opener against the Rams. His playing status will be a game-time decision.
Wells, a first-round pick in 2009 out of Ohio State, led the Cardinals with 793 yards rushing in 2009. RB Tim Hightower will get the bulk of the carries against the Rams. He ran for 598 yards in 2009.
The way we see it
Hightower is certainly a viable replacement for Wells in the Cardinals' backfield. He was second among running backs in 2009 with 63 receptions and is a better blocker than Wells. This will also give LaRod Stephens-Howling, a small (5-foot-7) but quick back, a chance to get some carries. They will miss Wells' explosiveness if he is out of the lineup.
