If defenses pay as much attention to WRs Randy Moss, Wes Welker and the Patriots' new tight ends as the media has this preseason, WR Brandon Tate could come out of nowhere and have a big season. Tate missed all of 2009 after suffering a torn ACL and MCL late in his senior season at North Carolina. The Pats' third-round pick in ’09 is healthy, and his 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Rams in the third preseason game showed the Patriots, and the league, that his speed is back. We hear that Tate is primed for a breakout season in the Pats' offense and will begin the season as the No. 3 wideout. Julian Edelman, the other option in the slot, has missed time with a foot injury, opening the door for Tate, who could find himself in opportunistic situations to run wild in an offense that likes to get the ball to guys in space.
