A day after returning to practice following a thumb injury, Buccaneers QB Josh Freeman sat out Wednesday's session.

Wearing a split on his right thumb, Freeman did not take part in quarterback drills. The team's other QBs wore shells and helmets.

Head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Greg Olson both said Freeman was fine and Freeman said he planned to practice every day this week following Tuesday's practice. But after sitting out on Wednesday, he indicated that it was by design. "Part of the plan," he told the Pewter Report.

Freeman suffered the broken thumb in the team's second preseason contest, an injury that kept him out for the remainder of the preseason.

The Buccaneers open at home Sunday against the Browns.
