The Buccaneers will be without their top cornerback, Aqib Talib, in Week One. He'll serve a one-game suspension for violating the league's personal-conduct policy after he was charged with battery for allegedly assaulting a cab driver a little more than a year ago. Talib entered a written plea of not guilty and later reached a monetary settlement with the cab driver. Team captain Ronde Barber spoke out on the matter Wednesday and said his teammate was being "unfairly punished" by the league and that Talib already had made amends for his "transgressions." An observer in Tampa says Talib has matured since the end of last season and is carrying himself like a team leader. Barber and the rest of Talib's teammates seem to have a newfound respect for him. Talib has been involved with a series of off-field incidents since entering the league, but has quickly become one of the Bucs' most valuable players.
