The Bills waived veteran TE Derek Schouman Wednesday. He had been placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury on Aug. 19 in a preseason game against the Colts. It was believed that Schouman would miss 3-6 weeks, which left the team thin at tight end when factoring in the four-week suspension of Shawn Nelson to start the season.

To help bolster the position, the Bills signed TE JajLeon Farr to the practice squad. Farr is an undrafted rookie out of Memphis. He was released by the Cowboys last weekend.

Schouman, a seventh-round draft pick out of Boise State in 2007, started and appeared in two games in ’09, catching nine passes for 103 yards before suffering a season-ending injury. In ’08, Schouman started 12 games, catching 15 passes for 153 yards on one TD.

He will be eligible to sign with any team after he is healthy. There is also the possibility that he could re-sign with Buffalo later in the season.
