The Browns waived LB David Veikune, one of their three second-round selections in the 2009 draft, on Tuesday, as well as reserve OG-C Billy Yates. They also claimed C Steve Vallos off waivers from Seattle and signed CB Chris Robertson, whom Tampa Bay waived on Saturday.
Veikune appeared in 10 games last season but did not notch a tackle. He recored eight defensive tackles in the preseason. Veikune, a defensive end at Hawaii, struggled to find a role at linebacker in Cleveland's 3-4 scheme and had received looks both outside and inside.
Vallos, 26, primarily played center for the Seahawks and logged eight starts in two seasons. He played for Browns president Mike Holmgren when Holmgren was Seattle's head coach in 2008. Vallos could back up starting C Alex Mack in Cleveland.
Yates, 30, appeared in seven games as a reserve for Cleveland last season. He can play guard and center.
The 25-year-old Roberson appeared in six games for Tampa Bay in 2009.
